ATHLETICS REGISTRATION: FALL 2011 View the CYO Championship Results
WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL ST. PHILIP’S BULLDOGS!! Let’s Get Ready for Exercise, Sportsmanship, Fellowship and Lots of Fun!
This Fall we will be hosting Soccer and Cross Country Track. Attached is registration information. (Basketball will follow in late Fall/early Winter. Registration Information will be sent home in or around early October).
Registration Deadline:
Registration form, with fee, must be returned to the school office no later than September 16, 2011. Mark the outside of the envelope—Athletics Association.
**THE ABOVE ARE STRICT DEADLINES AND ALL DECISIONS REGARDING WHICH TEAMS WILL GO FORWARD WILL BE MADE BASED UPON THE INFORMATION RECEIVED BY THESE DEADLINES. TEAMS WILL BE FILLED ON A FIRST COME BASIS**
Registration forms: Separate registration forms are attached for EACH sport. As the information may differ, please review each carefully and ensure that you are completing the correct form.
** As a reminder, it is not recommended for students to participate in both Soccer and Track due to possible conflicts in practice and competition times.
Coaches: We are always in great need for volunteers to ensure we have a full coaching staff for all teams. Thus, please indicate where appropriate if you are willing to coach. Coaches and Assistant Coaches will each receive 12 ½ hours of community service to be applied to the 2011-2012 school year. YOU MUST BE FINGERPRINTED IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE AS A COACH OR ASSITANT COACH.
Parent Volunteer Information: The last form in this package is a parent volunteer form. Please complete and return. WE ARE IN NEED OF AS MUCH PARENTAL ASSISTANCE AS POSSIBLE. Some volunteer hours are available (maximum of 5 hours per school year).

BASKETBALL REGISTRATION WINTER 2011
THIS PROCESS MUST BE COMPLETED BY ALL STUDENTS!
Teams will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.
Registration forms/fees due: November 1, 2011 (this is a hard cutoff date)
Fee: $160.00 per student; All checks are to be made payable to St. Philip the Apostle
Student eligibility: Students in 3rd through 8th grade can participate in Basketball. Teams are not co-ed. If we have enough students and coaches, we will field both boys and girls teams at the following levels: Rookie (3/4 grade); Junior Varsity (5/6 grade); Varsity (7/8 grade). A minimum of 10 players per team is needed in order for teams to go forward. It is essential that you get your registration in as soon as possible with associated fees or there is a risk that the teams will not go forward. Teams will be filled on a first come first serve basis.
**Note for 2nd graders**: Depending on date of birth, some second graders may also be eligible but we are still waiting for CYO to update their age requirements for this year. So if you child is in the second grade and you are interested, please contact Lawrence Weaver at theweaverz_msn.com.
IMPORTANT Registration Instructions: Every student must register online via the CYO website. To register go to www.washcyo.com . Once there, click on “CYO On-line Registration/Forms†and follow the instructions.
Once you complete the registration, you will be able print and sign a summary form. You will return that summary form with the registration fee to the Athletic Committee via the school office. Do not wait until the last minute to complete the on-line registration. After you submit your information, you may have to wait up to 48 hours for the CYO Office to review your information and confirm your parish affiliation prior to the registration being complete. Therefore give yourself plenty of time in order to meet the November 1, 2011 deadline.
Note: You must have a valid e-mail address to register online. If you do not have computer access or a valid e-mail address, please contact Rhonda/Lawrence Weaver at theweaverz_msn.com .
Coaches: WE CANNOT SPONSOR THE TEAMS WITHOUT COACHING ASSISTANCE. If you are interested in coaching, please contact Lawrence/Rhonda Weaver via e-mail at theweaverz_msn.com. Once we confirm the coaching staff, you will then be instructed to register online. DO NOT REGISTER ONLINE AS A COACH UNTIL YOU HAVE SPECIFICALLY BEEN INFORMED TO DO SO BY THE ATHLETIC COMMITTEE. ALSO YOU MUST BE FINGERPRINTED AND COMPLETED CHILD PROTECTION CLASSES TO COACH.
Uniforms: A final decision regarding uniforms will be made in conjunction with the coaches. Further information on this will be forthcoming. Practices are tentatively scheduled to begin in November.

UNIFORM POLICY: Uniforms will be available for purchase at the following prices:
Used shorts: $3 New shorts: $6
Used jerseys: $5 New shirts: $8
(Money for uniforms will be due at Uniform Distribution at a date TBA. Every effort will be made to assign the same uniforms to the same teams as last season; however this is dependent upon number or registrants and availability of uniforms. If your child is playing on the same team as last year and the uniform for that team has not changed, there is no need to purchase another uniform)
ATTENTION: ALL STUDENTS INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING IN FALL CROSS COUNTRY TRACK
Practices have begun. Further registration information will be sent home at the beginning of the school year, but if you know you are interested in participating, please see below information about early practices.
Event: CYO Cross Country
Participants: Open to all students 1st-8th grades (no Pre-K3, PreK-4, or Kindergarten).
Schedule:
Race Distances: 1st and 2nd Grades = 0.62 miles; 3rd - 8th Grades = 2 miles
Race Locations: Various locations (Northwest DC, Montgomery County, MD, Prince George's County, MD)
Meet Schedule: Sundays from 9/18 (tentative) through 10/16, with a championship meet on Saturday 10/22.
Practice times: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30p - 7:30p (August only) / 6:00p - 7:15p (September/October)
Practice Location: Louise F. Cosca Park Playground/Lake Area (Thrift Road, Clinton, MD) - please park in the "A" side parking lot closest to the playground, then walk down the hill to the lake.
Practice Attire: Running shoes (not basketball/cross-training shoes) and running clothes such as athletic socks, shorts, T-shirts, sweatpants/shirts, jackets (suitable for the weather). Please bring water for practice breaks.
Race Fees: $30.00 per child for the entire season. Runners may wear their school P.E. uniforms at the races. Spring 2011 Track and Field runners may wear their track uniforms. Track uniforms can be ordered for an additional fee. Checks for fee may be made payable to St. Philip the Apostle.
