Reading Resource
Mrs. Lauren Proctor
Hi, my name is Lauren Proctor. I am the Reading Resource teacher. I've been involved with reading one way or another even before I could remember. I grew up in the time when we would gather around the radio in the evenings and listen to stories like, Our Ms. Brooks, The Shadow and Mystery Theater. But during the day my favorite past time was reading, through books I could visit any land, meet anybody, and have the most grandest adventures.
By the time I had children of my own, I already owned a small library to start them on the road to reading. In fact I did my own version of Montessori school at home, while working on two Bachelor Degree's at the University of Maryland.
After I received my two degrees, a Montessori school offered to pay for my training and then I worked for them for 9 years. I went to countless workshops and classes putting together a tidbit here and a tidbit there to help struggling readers. Finally I was ready to work exclusively on Reading. Since that was not possible in a Montessori enviroment I applied for and was accepted to a position here, at St. Philip the Apostle School. Since starting here I have earned my Masters in Elementary Reading.
I truly love being a Reading Resource teacher and watching the AHA!! moments brightening my students eyes. Every time I help a child discover the joy of reading, I rediscover it too. Now I am also helping my grandchildren and others discover it too.
